We had our first real experience in the office today. But not for very long. Still had meetings to attend and things to take care of in getting settled. Not the least of which was getting the internet turned on in our apartment -- which we did! This is our first blog from the apartment (pictures included as promised)!

Mom is feeling right at home now. Sbe made her first batch of cookies for the local young adults! We'll be meeting with them in just a few minutes.

Things look better each day, even though it's already really cold here. Never gets above about 25 degrees or so.

We did go to the 'Black Market' today. What a experience! It's called the Black Market because that's what it used to be when under Russian rule many years ago. The Russians didn't allow private business, but they didn't real succeed in stopping it. Today, it is just another conglomeration of individual people trying to sell a few things to make a living. It's open air and we nearly froze. But it is really something! Lot's and lot's of people and tons of wares. It seemed like we saw acres of shoes!

We'll plan on Skyping tomorrow morning (our time, Monday evening at about 5:30 your time). To answer a question Becky had, we can audio Skype on a conference basis, but not video. We'll work out some sort of schedule later.
Got to go. All our love to everyone!

Thanks for the pics. I have to admit though, with all the build up, I was expecting more of a "conglomeration" of pictures! ;)

The apartment doesn't look that bad! It's certainly not your house, but I was prepared for much worse. I'm glad you can find stuff to make cookies. I was worried we would have to send you the cookie stuff!
Very excited to talk to you tonight. I know it hasn't even been a week yet, but sometimes it feels like forever. Curves is so boring with no one to talk to!! :)

MORE PICTURES!!! (A picture of Dad playing pool would be awesome!)We are hanging on your every word here! So far, thank goodness, it doesn't sound so bad food wise over there. I thought that it would be alot worse. I am glad it's not. So what kind of cookies did you make? All of the missionaries over there are going to love having you around. We were wondering what kind of ingredients you were able to obtain over there. I agree with Rebecca on the last post, go to the office early everyday so that we can get lots of info. WE LOVED IT!! I didn't even know it was on there until this morning because I got use to having just one post everyday when we woke up, so we got a 'bonus' post, AWESOME!! We can't wait to talk to you tonight, it does seem like forever since we have seen you. We Love You!!

It's not that bad...

Who am I kidding? My mission president kicked us out of apartments better than that. I lived in one apartment that had been condemned by the city for a year...and it was better than that. I had an apartment you didn't need a key for-you could just crawl in through the hole in the kitchen wall! And it was better than that. I had an apartment where we had to feed the biggest rat so he would keep the other rats out...and it was better than that. I had an apartment that used to be a refrigerator box...and it was better than that. Once I lived in a sewer drain near the lake...and it was better than that.

There. I hope you feel better after that. I know I do.

Great to see the work of the Lord starts at 10 AM. I always knew that was the time He started.

Hey, be on the look out for some old friends of ours from Canada.

Sanford and Sharon Atkinson of the St. Davids ward. They are great folks and they ar friends with our best friends up there, the Gilmores.
Love the blog,
Thom
